I've wanted to start a blog for some time but was stuck at the very beginning. What to write!? It's easy to get caught up in trying to be original or funny, touching or informative. Should I document fashion trends? Post various photos? Satirize U.S. politics? My search continued until recently...the first Tuesday. A close someone and I found ourselves with a completely free day. We'd planned coffee with computers, a trip to the mall, a meal here and there, a Monty Python movie, and some hot toddies. We're fun as hell! Anyway...from this day, Tuesdays with Jonny arose.

Enjoy!

3/29/11- Missed picture opportunities

Argh!  My first stop today was Borders (be sure to hit them up.  the sales are nuts because they're going out of business) for a new book on web design...no picture.  I then journeyed to Starbucks to write and spend time on FB.... no picture.  After that it was off to the Apple store to salivate over the iPhone 4 and the iPad2...still no picture.  There were clearly a few kodak moments that were never to be.  The above photo, as filtered on a cool app called "Instagram" (it allows for tilt shift photography...google it) was taken at dinner.  This is my impression of a Japanese wolverine.  You didn't think I could be PC all time, did ya?

Text #1:  "Movin on up"

Well, would you look at my mother the baller!  That ladies and gentlemen is the 2011 Rx.  It's not hers. The authorities prefer I leave it at that.

Text #2 + #3:  "Mamma and babies.  Breakfast is served." and "Gray day in Florida"

Well Leslie, that's just sick!  It's insult to injury when you snack on the bird family on a rainy day.  Incidentally, I was marooned on my tricycle at Starbucks.  That's an inside joke everyone.  Deal with it!

Text #4:  "The reservoir in cp (central park)...look close there's a rainbow"

And if you look even closer you can see Addie chasing a leprechaun in search of his pot of gold.  All I see is a geyser in a retaining pond.

Text #5:  "$5 martinis and braves"

If I were watching the Braves, I'd be drinking too.  I'll be rooting for the Rays on opening day!  I mean with Damon and Ramirez (the stars of 1993) how can we possibly lose this season?

Text #6:  "So much of our Tuesday has been spent watching this guy swimming about.  This is Ronald. He's our new fish"

Uh...Erin...this is awkward...did I leave my toupee in your shower?

Text #7:  "Healing the shin splints due to my commitment to over exercise ;)"

What an odd commitment.  Over-exercise!  Way to stick to your goals!?

Text #8:  "I got this as a text from my mother.  That is my 62 year old father water skiing on Tuesday."

I've met Danielle's dad and I'm not at all surprised that he is catching big air as he skates that wake.  Isn't that what the kids are saying these days?

Text #9:  "Fashion over function?  Blisters hurt."

Allow me to chime in on this so called 'fashion over function'.  Jessica purchased these kicks for 6 bucks at The Salvation Army.  They came complete with a half box worth of saltine crumbs inside.  The function was clearly as a pantry!

Text #10:  "Jeremy's replacement"

This is Violet's second or third appearance on "tuesdays"...the little dear.  Let this be your warning Kathleen.  You're one bark away from my crazy dog lady intervention.

Text #11:  "Movie night.  Just released today.  I love Chuck Bartowski."

For some reason, Kelly's contributions often require research on my part.  After some poking around I learned that Chuck is the title character on the TV series "Chuck".  I assume he voices a role in "Tangled", but pride myself in knowing that I don't know for sure.

Text #12:  "I'm already in bed.  That won't make for a cool photo"

Oh but it does Kaeleen.  This is the face I made when I didn't want to wake up for school and my mom came in my room singing, and I quote, "It's wakey time!!"...over and over again!

Text # 13:  "Long night at Grandma's house."

It's hard to tell from the picture, but that's me. I got plumb tuckered out somewhere after going over the river but before traveling through the woods.

Text #14:  "A grande misto (3 splendas) always helps me through my day....One from the new Starbucks in Astoria really helped me through the 8 hour dinner shift where I made $90... If this keeps up I'll need a little something more than caffeine."

Apparently our new contributor Erik is a budding novelist.  Are you alluding to drug abuse Erik?  Tuesdays with Jonny has a no tolerance policy when it comes to drugs.  D.A.R.E. to be sleepy at work!  On a separate but equally important note, that's a lovely new Starbucks!

Final Thoughts

This week wasn't so much about a plan but about the execution.  Sometimes it's easy to forget there's no script or guaranteed pleasant ending .  We have to keep sharpening the proverbial pencil and always have an eraser close at hand!  In my mind that blurb sounded so profound yet reading it back it seems rather obscene.  I'm pleased!

Moral of the story?  Life is full of variables and it's up to us to not only roll with the punches but to learn to cast aside our predispositions.  There's no such thing as perfection.  If there were there'd be nothing to strive for, nothing to worry about and nothing to be embarrassed of.  What fun would that be?

Till next time...

Jonny
