I've wanted to start a blog for some time but was stuck at the very beginning. What to write!? It's easy to get caught up in trying to be original or funny, touching or informative. Should I document fashion trends? Post various photos? Satirize U.S. politics? My search continued until recently...the first Tuesday. A close someone and I found ourselves with a completely free day. We'd planned coffee with computers, a trip to the mall, a meal here and there, a Monty Python movie, and some hot toddies. We're fun as hell! Anyway...from this day, Tuesdays with Jonny arose.

Enjoy!

12/14- The First Tuesday

So...the owner of this thumb and I are sitting at a bar at the International Mall in Tampa.  We're laughing at ourselves for a variety of reasons as we usually do.  Somehow neither of us can get over the fact that, while the working stiffs have been slaving behind their desks all day, our Tuesday has been one of leisure and contentment.  We've already spent 3 hours in a coffee shop looking at blogs, watching youtube, Christmas Shopping online and getting our caffeine on.  We then headed mall-ward to browse a little and eat a little.  Our last fifteen minutes have been spent avoiding eye contact with the bartender because we were waiting for the 4PM Happy Hour to kick in.  Cheap or thrifty?  Finally the digital Budweiser clock strikes 4 and we order two discounted pints, her a Blue Moon and me a Miller.

Just after our toast to the achievement of the American dream and our collective first sip, I snapped a picture to commemorate the occasion.  The archiving of our Tuesday freedom didn't seem  quite enough.  I decided to text this picture to a few friends, all in Manhattan, with the caption "This is my tuesday, what does yours look like?"  The response was overwhelming.  They texted nearly simultaneously with pictures and captions... and "Tuesdays with Jonny" was born.

Text #1: (no caption)

This thumb belongs to one of my best friends, Kathleen.  It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's a sarcastic thumbs up.  You see, this Tuesday finds Kathleen bartending for the sixth day in a row at a little  Irish pub in Midtown West.  It's a great little spot called the Snug and...it's empty.  This predicament hits especially close to home because I used to be the manager.  Tuesdays typically start off slow so Kathleen has a few options.  She can order the famed chicken and avocado salad with house dressing on the side from Georgio's Country Grill.  She can hone her dart skills on the board that is just left of the picture.  She can dust the bottle and wash the fridges.  OR...she can drink!  It's really up to her.

Text #2:  "Peal studio.  Gross"

This came streaming in...straight from the crotch of Colte.  Like many of my friends, and me, Colte is an actor.  This is an exclusive, behind the scenes glance from inside an audition holding room.  Actors line the perimeter and wait for hours to hear their names called.  Colte went with a sensible dark wash, blue jean as part of today's ensemble.  He'll be singing a selection from the hit musical "Cats"complete with face paint, crawling on all fours, and literally "meowing to the heavens".  Break a leg buddy.  Happy Tuesday!

Text #3: "Coat check rocks"

This is Lucas.  It looks like his Tuesday may have gotten the best of him.  Notice his "Christ-like" appearance as he lays out over a beautifully tableclothed "round top".   Like Colte, Lucas is living the Tuesday dream of an actor in Manhattan...not particularly of choice, but of necessity.  He's well appointed in classic black from head to toe and looks to have a well-groomed beard.  It's hard to tell his exact predicament from the picture but I'd like to think of it as a mid-afternoon nap!

Final Thoughts

All in all, I'd say this was a successful first Tuesday.  I sent out three texts and received three awesome and diverse responses.  I mean...you may not be free to enjoy a 4PM happy hour, but that's not to say you aren't out there somewhere, walking your walk.  And, if we aren't able to walk it together on a given day, the least we can do is share our experiences!  I'm already excited for the adventures next Tuesday may bring.  I got some kick ass ideas bouncing around!

Be sure to to become a follower and check back each Wednesday to see Tuesday's antics.  If you would like to contribute a picture from your Tuesday, text or email.  Feel free to include a caption or a story.  If you don't, I'll be more than happy to fill in the blanks!!

Till next time...

Jonathan
